October 2026 PTG Recap: Powering Open, Resilient Infrastructure

By Kendall Nelson on 10/30/2026

The October 2026 Project Teams Gathering (PTG) brought together contributors, operators, and open-source advocates across the Open Infrastructure Foundation ecosystem. Across five days of virtual design and roadmap alignment, total attendance across all tracks reached over 700 participants engaging in live technical discussions, troubleshooting sessions, and strategic planning. The gathering provided dedicated space for teams to coordinate cross-project initiatives spanning bare metal, container virtualization, edge environments, and AI operations. The shared success of OpenInfra projects rests on transparent design and community collaboration through events like this October’s PTG.

Coming off the 2026.2 Hibiscus release for OpenStack and discussions from the OpenInfra Summit Asia, participating teams, Special Interest Groups (SIGs), and Working Groups aligned roadmaps for cloud infrastructure, AI workloads, digital sovereignty, bare metal, and contributor tooling.

Over on the OpenStack blog, you can check out a summary of all of the goings on during OpenStack service and team discussions. StarlingX and Kata Containers also have published summaries on their discussions through the PTG week which can be found on their respective blogs.

Next Steps

Every PTG reinforces why OpenInfra projects like OpenStack can power over 45 million compute cores worldwide. Our adherence to the Four Opens (Open Source, Open Design, Open Development, and Open Community) is what makes OpenInfra such a vibrant community and a place where robust open source infrastructure projects thrive.  This is simply because every PTG is the embodiment of the Four Opens; it’s open to any participant and welcomes any project or team to discuss designs and implementations in the open. Whether running private enterprise clouds, telco edges, or specialized AI clusters, open collaboration remains the standard for digital independence and sovereignty.

If you were unable to make a session, consult the individual project Etherpads and ongoing work on the OpenDev platform for full spec discussions and patch updates.

Since OpenInfra never stops moving forward, the next PTG is already scheduled for April 12–16, 2027, where teams will review progress on the last six months and begin planning the subsequent development cycles for the rest of 2027. Registration will open soon!
