VEXXHOST Deepens OpenInfra Support with $100K Contribution to Host Foundation Infrastructure
The OpenInfra Foundation today announced that VEXXHOST, a Canadian-owned cloud provider that has run OpenStack in production since 2011, will contribute $100,000 in infrastructure support over the next year to host the Foundation’s websites and backend infrastructure. The agreement continues VEXXHOST’s role as an OpenInfra Foundation Infrastructure Donor and maintains the Foundation’s own web presence on OpenStack, the open source cloud platform its community builds and maintains.
The contribution extends a decade of VEXXHOST support for OpenDev, the collaboration platform where OpenStack and other open source projects are developed and tested. Since 2016, VEXXHOST has hosted OpenDev control plane services, including Gerrit code review, Gitea Git hosting and DNS, and a backup server. It also supplies compute for the community’s continuous integration (CI) testing, with high-memory and GPU-enabled instances among the resources it offers.
“We've been running OpenStack in production since 2011, and our commitment to the community has always gone beyond simply using the technology,” said Mohammed Naser, founder and CEO of VEXXHOST. “Today, we're proud that the OpenInfra Foundation relies on our infrastructure to support its own operations. It's a testament to what we've built over the past 15 years and to the reliability and maturity of OpenStack in production.”
Founded in Montreal in 2006 as a hosting company, VEXXHOST adopted OpenStack in 2011 and delivers a comprehensive portfolio of open source infrastructure solutions, including private cloud, Kubernetes, Ceph storage, Zuul CI/CD, and GPU-powered infrastructure for AI workloads, while also operating public cloud regions in Montreal, Santa Clara and Amsterdam.
VEXXHOST has released its own tooling as open source, including Atmosphere, an OpenStack deployment platform built on Ansible, Helm and Kubernetes, and MigrateKit, which moves virtual machines from VMware to OpenStack with minimal downtime. The community honored VEXXHOST with the Superuser Award in 2019.
VEXXHOST's leadership and influence within the global open source community extend beyond its infrastructure contributions. Naser serves as an Individual Director on the OpenInfra Foundation Governing Board, helping shape the strategic direction of the open infrastructure ecosystem. VEXXHOST further reinforces its commitment to advancing open source infrastructure as a Silver Member of the OpenInfra Foundation.
“VEXXHOST has been part of OpenStack since the project’s second release, and Mohammed’s team runs one of the most up-to-date OpenStack deployments anywhere,” said Thierry Carrez, general manager of the OpenInfra Foundation. “OpenStack contributors already send their code changes for review through servers VEXXHOST hosts for OpenDev, and it is fitting that the Foundation’s own websites run on OpenStack too.”
VEXXHOST is one of five OpenInfra Foundation Infrastructure Donors, along with OpenMetal, the Oregon State University Open Source Lab, OVHcloud and Rackspace.
